Every sock has a story. But at Sock by Sock, we believe socks can tell many stories, and sometimes they write the most important ones.
On May 7th, our donated socks took center stage at an auction in De Rooie Pannen, a moment that perfectly captures what we are really about. It wasn’t just about rescuing textiles from landfills or reducing waste, though that’s at the heart of everything we do. It was about helping the Verbeeten Institute provide cancer patients with treatment tables that allow the comfort and dignity they deserve during treatment.
On May 20th approximately 100 students from De Rooie Pannen climbed Kreistenalm in Austria. Every step, every moment of that climb, is dedicated to the same goal: raising funds for the Verbeeten Institute’s new treatment tables.
From Overstock to Auction Block
Every year, millions of socks end up in landfills due to overproduction, seasonal shifts, or simple overstock. The environmental cost is staggering. The human cost? Often overlooked.
At Sock by Sock, we intercept those socks before they become waste. This time, however, the purpose of this event was crystal clear: funding new treatment tables for cancer patients.
Our socks were auctioned as part of the De Rooie Pannen’s fundraising challenge, and the community answered. The proceeds are supporting something deeply meaningful: making cancer treatment more comfortable, more patient-centered, and more human.
